“Go Home” Mosaic Portrait
of Shahd Allmodallal

"Go Home" is a portrait of Palestinian artist, student and entrepreneur Shahd Almodallal, forced to leave her home in Gaza due to the ongoing genocide, she is now living in Dublin. The portrait is completed in mosaic, an ancient technique originating from the middle east. The hundreds of pieces represent the shattered lives of Palestinians who have to piece their lives back together often far from home. In 2022 a Byzantine era mosaic was discovered in Gaza, its preservation is under threat due to the Israeli blockaid on goods going in and out of Gaza and of course because of the ongoing genocide.

The piece is titled "Go Home' for two reasons, one is that it is all most Palestinians want to do or have the right to do. The second reason is that this is sadly what is shouted at Shahd and many others on the streets of Dublin everyday. Shahd wears a traditional Palestinian tatreez embroidery shawl.
